Outdoor Cables

outdoor cables

Outdoor Cables rated for outdoor use.  Cat6 Shielded Cable is typically best for outdoor networking. This outdoor ethernet cable is best when placed underground. Most Ethernet cable is laid indoors, but there are occasions where you will need your network to traverse outside areas, such as: Connecting two or more external buildings. What is outdoor rated cable?
The Differences Between Outdoor-rated & Direct Burial Cables
Today’s needs for internet connection have expanded from indoor gaming and streaming movies to outdoor security surveillance systems and outdoor entertainment centers. Many residential and businesses see the need to extend their network to the outside and between buildings. Outdoors and direct burial cables may be the best options because wireless security issues and maintain a reliable connection may be limited due to range and weather conditions. Direct burial cables are best used in wet locations, whether it be above or below ground without the use of conduit.
Temperature Rating
It is important to consider the temperature rating when using outdoor rated cables because these types of cables are designed to withstand heat and cold and require harsher protection than normal indoor cables. Standard PVC cables can only withstand a temperature down to -20°, whereas outdoor rated cables use a PE (Polyethylene) jacket that can withstand temperatures down to -40°C.
A cable with an outdoor-rated PE (Polyethylene) jacket is recommended for cables that are going to be used in colder climates. PE jackets are made from a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material which makes them ideal for withstanding lower temperatures. A common PVC jacket can support temperatures down to -20℃ (-4 F), however, a Polyethylene jacket can support temperatures as low as -40℃ (-40 F).
Outdoor-rated Cable
Outdoor-rated cables are normally made of PE or UV-resistant PVC material to withstand heat and UV rays. Outdoor-rated cables are constructed with UV protection to maintain cable integrity and prevent degradation down the line. In comparison, most Indoor cable brands are commonly constructed with standard PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) jackets that offer no UV (ultraviolet) protection and constant exposure to direct sunlight will result in a brittle jacket that can crack and compromise its connection. Outdoor-rated cables are designed to be used outdoor, but they are not recommended for direct burial unless a conduit is used.
